Waiting on Wednesday: Hanging by a Thread

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we cannot wait to get our hands on.
I am waiting on:

Title: Hanging by a Thread
Author: Sophie Littlefield
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: Septemeber 11, 2012

BLURB: Summer is the best part of the year in Winston, California, and the Fourth of July is the highlight of the season. But the perfect town Clare remembers has changed, and everyone is praying that this summer will be different from the last two—that this year's Fourth of July festival won't see one of their own vanish without a trace, leaving no leads and no suspects. The media are in a frenzy predicting a third disappearance, but the town depends on tourist dollars, so the residents of Winston are trying desperately to pretend nothing's wrong.
And they're not the only ones hiding something.
Clare, a seamstress who redesigns vintage clothing, has been blessed—or perhaps cursed—with a gift: she can see people's pasts when she touches their clothes. When she stumbles across a denim jacket that once belonged to Amanda Stavros, last year's Fourth of July victim, Clare sees her perfect town begin to come apart at the seams.
In a town where appearance means everything, how deep beneath the surface will Clare dig to uncover a murderer?

I found this one during last week's Waiting on Wednesday, and it sounds like an amazing book! I really like the premise!

The only reliable person in Rhonda's life is her family's Mexican yardman, Jes s. But when the INS deports Jes?'s back to his home state of Oaxaca, Rhonda is left alone with her increasingly painful family situation. Determined to find her friend Jes s, Rhonda seizes an opportunity to run away during a camping trip with friends. She swims to the Mexican side of the Rio Grande and makes her way to the border town of Boquillas, Mexico. There a peyote-addled bartender convinces her she won't be safe traveling alone into the country's interior. So with the bartender's help, Rhonda cuts her hair and assumes the identity of a Mexican boy named Angel. She then sets off on a burro across the desert to look for Jes s. Thus begins a wild adventure that explores the borders between the United States and Mexico, adolescence and adulthood, male and female, English and Spanish, and adult coming-of-age and Young Adult novels.

Then her new friend Shannon tells her she can help set things right. Chelsea's willing to listen, but what Shannon wants her to believe -- that she shared a past life with Drew -- is impossible. And what she wants her to do to get him back … well, it's downright crazy.
Could Shannon be telling the truth? And if she is, what lengths will Chelsea go if it means making Lizzie pay?
Find out in Vengeance, the second part of the Transcend Time Saga.
*Vengeance is the short story that bridges the events in Remembrance and the final novel in the Saga.

My Review

Vengeance is a short story that falls between the first and last books of the Transcend Time Saga by Michelle Madow. In the first book, Remembrance, we learn the story of Lizzie and Drew, while Vengeance is from Lizzie’s best friend Chelsea. Chelsea was hurt to find out her boyfriend and best friend went behind her back and started dating. Her friend, Shannon, want to help her get Drew back, and get revenge on Lizzie for her betrayal.

This is a very short and quick read, with only 51 pages. I devoured this story in less than an hour, and love it. I have to say, I loved how Vengeance tell the story of Chelsea, and explores what she will do to be with the man she loves. It leaves off on a huge cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to find out what happens when the final book comes out this year. If you have read Remembrance, Vengeance is a must read. For those who have not read Remembrance, pick it up. The Kindle version is currently on sale through April for only .99.

**Unabridged Bookshelf purchased this book**

Have you read the Vengeance?
What did you think?

Also right now, the author, Michelle Madow is having a contest to unscramble the name of the final novel and be entered to win a copy of the final book when it releases.

Cover Reveal: The Vincent Brothers

TITLE: The Vincent Brothers
AUTHOR: Abbi Glines
SERIES: The Vincent Boys #2
EXPECTED PUBLICATION: July 3, 2012

SUMMARY:
He may have given her up without a fight, but Sawyer Vincent is far from over losing the girl he’s loved all of his life. Instead of giving up his best friend and the girl he thought he’d spend forever with, he gave Ashton and his brother Beau his blessing. However, adjusting to seeing Ashton wrapped up in Beau’s arms isn’t easy. Complicating everything even more, Ashton’s cousin Lana is in town for the summer. Sweet, kind, soft-spoken Lana, who gets under his skin. Just being near her makes him forget all about Ashton and his broken heart. Lana is everything he wanted Ashton to be except she isn’t Ashton. She lacks the backbone to stand up for herself and confidence that Ashton wears like a crown.
Lana McDaniel  has lived her life in her cousin's shadow. While Lana struggled with her grades no matter how hard she tried, her mother praised Ashton's intelligence. She hadn’t been blessed with Ashton’s blond hair and flawless skin, but that didn't keep her mother from lamenting her naturally red hair and freckles. But none of that would have mattered if Ashton hadn’t always had Sawyer Vincent wrapped around her finger -- the only boy Lana wanted. Once Ashton let Sawyer go, Lana had been so sure that he’d move on. Determined to make Sawyer finally see her, she'd talked her mother into letting her spend the summer with Ashton. But Sawyer is still in love with Ashton, and Lana isn’t going to be anyone's rebound girl. No matter how yummy Sawyer Vincent’s kisses taste.

Here are the covers for the series together:

This Weeks Teaser:

Title: On the Island
Author: Tracey Garvis Graves
Publication Date: October 11, 2011

When thirty-year-old English teacher Anna Emerson is offered a job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family's summer rental in the Maldives, she accepts without hesitation; a working vacation on a tropical island trumps the library any day. T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. He's almost seventeen and if having cancer wasn't bad enough, now he has to spend his first summer in remission with his family - and a stack of overdue assignments - instead of his friends. Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.'s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a fatal heart attack and crash-lands in the Indian Ocean. Adrift in shark-infested waters, their life jackets keep them afloat until they make it to the shore of an uninhabited island. Now Anna and T.J. just want to survive and they must work together to obtain water, food, fire, and shelter. Their basic needs might be met but as the days turn to weeks, and then months, the castaways encounter plenty of other obstacles, including violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the possibility that T.J.'s cancer could return. As T.J. celebrates yet another birthday on the island, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

My questions was given to me by Natasha @ Dreamland: A Teenage Fantasy and BooK ReviewS

First My Questions From Natasha:

Q1. What do you find in a book?
A: I find that when you read an amazing book, it is like a little vacation into another world.

Q2: Name your top 5 favorite characters, and your favorite book couple.

A: My Favorite Characters

1. Nancy Drew

 2. Harry Potter

3. Claire from Morganville Vampires

4. Kaylee from Soul Screamers

5. Calla from the Nightshade Series

Favorite Book Couple: Nancy Drew and Frank Hardy

Q3: Name a book that made you cry, or felt the urge to tear.
A: I cried multiple times during The Harry Potter Series

Q4: Name the worst book you have ever read.
            A. Honestly, I cannot even remember the name of the book. It was a required reading book for my Western Literature Class in High School. I just remember absolutely hating reading it for class.

Q5: Who is your favorite author? Why?
            A. I would have to say J.K. Rowling, because I honestly have never read anything on the massive scale of awesome as Harry Potter, and I do not think I will ever come across anything that will match it.

Q6: Where do you normally get your books?
            A. I buy many of my books on Amazon, especially of course for my Kindle. I also shop sales at Barnes and Noble and Sam’s Club always has awesome deals. I also like to check out Kindle books from my local library.

Q7: Which book turn movie you love the most?
            A. I would have to say that The Harry Potter movies are the best books to be turned into movies, and I was super sad to see them finally end.

Q8:  What is your reading genre?
            A. I think I prefer to read young adult books, especially paranormal romance or mystery/thrillers.

Q9: Name a book with the best cliffhanger.
            A. I would have to say the cliffhanger at the end of the third Vampire Academy Book: Spirit Bound. Broke my heart, and left me hanging.

Q10: If you have the choice to choose which supernatural being you want to be, what would you be?
            A. If I had to choose, I think I would want to be witch, and move to England. That way I could go to Hogwarts, and cast awesome spells.

Now for my questions from BooK ReviewS
(Some of these maybe repeat a little bit)

Q1: What is it about Books that you love the most?
A: I love the appeal of experience a great story, discovering a new world, and escaping from reality for a few hours

Q5: Name your all-time favorite character.
A: Anyone who has been here before knows this answer: Nancy Drew. I swear I am not obsessed.

Q6:  If you could suddenly be a part of a story, you would choose to be a part of...?
A: I would love to be a part of Harry Potter, of course after Voldemort is defeated! He is scary, and I would prefer not to die.

Q7: One book you simply hated!
A: (See Question 4 of previous questions)

Q8: Which book would you like to see converted into a movie?
A: I would love to see The Forest of Hands and Teeth series turned into movies.  I have heard that the first one has had the movie rights purchased, so it may actually happen.

Q9: Jane Austen or Bronte Sisters?
A: I have not read a lot of Austen or Bronte, but my mother made me watch all movies based on Jane Austen growing up, so I would have to go with Austen.

Q10: Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre?
A: I have not read Wuthering Heights, I know it is shameful! I would have to go with Jane Eyre on that one.

Review: Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen

Title: Scarlet
Author: A.C. Gaughen
Publisher: Walker Books For Young Readers
Publication Date: February 14, 2012

BUY SCARLET NOW

GOODREADS SUMMARY: Many readers know the tale of Robin Hood, but they will be swept away by this new version full of action, secrets, and romance.
Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only the Hood and his band know the truth: the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. Helping the people of Nottingham outwit the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life as Gisbourne closes in.
It’s only her fierce loyalty to Robin—whose quick smiles and sharp temper have the rare power to unsettle her—that keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for.

MY REVIEW

Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen is an epic re-telling of Robin Hood that made me fall in love all over again with the tale of Robin Hood. I have always loved the tale of Robin Hood stealing from the rich to provide for the poor. In Scarlet, Will Scarlet appears to be a boy to everyone, but Robin and his group know the truth, that Will is actually Scarlet a girl who is not afraid to fight for what is right, and kick butt while doing it.

When the Sheriff of Nottingham decides to hire a Thief Taker to capture the Hood and his men, Scarlet is in more danger than ever. The Thief Taker, Gisbourne, is ruthless, and he will stop at nothing to capture the Hood. It makes it more difficult to provide food, clothing, and tax money to the people of Nottingham. As Gisbourne closes in, Scarlet’s secret is at risk of being revealed.

I loved Scarlet as a character, because she is strong, and fierce. She wields knifes, and kicks butt as well as any man, and no one is any wiser. I love the romance that is sprinkled throughout the story, but of course, my favorite is the Scarlet’s crush on Robin Hood. A.C. Gaughen has an amazing power with her words, and I was hooked with in the first few passages. I finished Scarlet in one sitting, my attention could not be diverted anywhere else, it is just THAT good!

I admit I easily fall in love with books, but with Scarlet, it is just so much more! I cannot even describe how much I love this book! Anyone looking for an amazing adventure with a touch of romance, danger lurking around the corner, with a strong female lead needs to pick this book up immediately. Robin is charming, heroic, and of course gorgeous! He fights for the good, and he feels like it is his duty to save the people from the wrath of the Sheriff and Prince John. For once, I am completely in love with the good guy! There are a few twists in the book, that took me completely by surprise, and I was pleasantly surprised. Do yourself a favor and put Scarlet on your to be read list today!

Follow Friday #12 and TGIF #5

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #80

Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read

Q: BeefcakeandBabes Asks: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What’s the most unique character name you’ve come across?
I would have to say the most unique name I have ever came across would have to be  Renesmee. I hate the name, but I have to say I have never seen anything like it. I also have only come across my name,Chandra, once in a book I was reading, and the best part it was a Hardy Boys Casefiles! If you have been here before, you know that was a huge deal! Except she was a recruiter for a crazy religious cult, but hey I was floored!

TGIF is hosted by Ginger at Greads
The purpose is to answer the question for the week, and re-cap the weeks posts.
It is a great way to get to know other bloggers.

Q.  Book Blogger Pride: What do you take pride in when it comes to blogging?

I would have to say EVERYTHING! Every New Follower, Every Comment, Every Request mean the world to me! Anytime someone likes what I have to say, it is still unbelievable! I have only been blogging for 5 months, and it has been the BEST 5 MONTHS EVER!
Every person that stops by just to read what I have written, I truly appreciated you taking time out of your day to view my blog! YOU ARE AWESOME! Seriously, Ask my husband, every time I open my email or check my blog, I get a goofy smile on my face.

Review: Pure (Pure #1) by Julianna Baggott

Title: Pure
Author: Julianna Baggott
Series: Pure #1
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Publication Date: February 8, 2012

BUY PURE

GOODREADS SUMMARY: Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet, she thinks about what is lost--how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers . . . to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies.
My Review

First off, I just have to say Pure is dark, twisted, and creepy, but it still managed to make my heart ache, and astound me. Pressia is a Wretch, who were on the outside when the Detonations hit. This resulted in her become disfigured, fused with her baby doll’s head in place of her hand. Pressia is not the only story we learn about, Pure is also story of Partridge, a Pure, who was on the inside of the Dome when the Detonations hit. The viewpoints switch mainly between Partridge and Pressia as their stories become intertwined, but do feature a few of the other characters.

The story that Julianna Baggott weaves is a tangled, complicated web, with many different threads coming together to form the story of Pure. I feel for Pressia, who dreams that one day the world will go back to the way it was, with amusement parks, movie theaters, and birthday parties. Partridge knows that there is more to the world than just the Dome, and when he learns that his mother may still be alive, he needs to find out for himself. Even if it means, he will have to leave the safety of the Dome.

I had to sit with my thoughts on this book for a while. While this book is nothing like what I thought it was going to be, it is much darker, but I think it made me like it even more. There are many disturbing, descriptive images in Pure, so it is not a book for the faint hearted. There were times when I had to pause, because of the intense feelings the descriptions of the fusions bought out of me. While it is creepy and disturbing at times, I still loved Pure.

I have never read anything like Pure, and I think it may be the reason I loved the book so much. I experienced a range of emotions I usually do not experience all in one book. I would recommend this book to older teens/adult dystopia fans. I do have to say; I probably would have loved the book more without, as many disturbing or graphic descriptions, but then this book would probably feel a little false for a nuclear wasteland novel. Pure is the first book in a series, with Fuse to be released in the future.

Waiting on Wednesday: This Is Not a Test

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we cannot wait to get our hands on.
I am waiting on:

Title: This Is Not a Test
Author: Courtney Summers
Publisher: St. Martins
Publication Date: June 19, 2012

GOODREADS SUMMARY: It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life—and death—inside. When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?

Why am I waiting?
It sounds really good, and a very unique perspective of a zombie apocalypse.
I have heard it compared to the Breakfast Club meets Zombie Apocalypse, so I mean I just have to check it out.
What are you waiting on?
Leave me a link, so I can check it out! I always love to find new books!
